Lecithin is the principal component of the human body's cells and generally
consists of 10-20% phosphatidyl choline (PC). As a supplier of choline, PC is
needed to maintain cell membrane integrity and to facilitate the movement of
fats in and out of cells, as well as ions, wastes, and nutrients. Lecithin
protects cells from oxidation and largely composes the protective sheaths
surrounding the brain. Due to its choline make-up, lecithin has been touted as a
memory enhancer by improving cognitive functions. Lecithin is composed mostly of
B vitamins, phosphoric acid, choline, linolenic acid and inositol. It is
regarded as the 'guardian of cells'. Having enough lecithin means having a
better immune system, metabolism and general vitality. Today, lecithin is
largely used in the prevention of tumor,
heart, liver diseases among others.
